European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said in Brussels on Friday that the leaders of the bloc asked the union’s foreign ministers to discuss the arms embargo on Syria on March 22-23.
“We agreed to task our foreign ministers to assess the situation as a matter of priority, already at their informal meeting next week in Dublin, and to develop common positions,” Van Rompuy declared.
France and Britain have urged their EU partners to lift the arms embargo for Syrian opposition.
They have to make more effort to convince the EU member states, with Germany that has a position against this initiative so far.
