Bulgaria and EU should have the same position on Syria, says Bulgarian President

It is very important for Bulgaria and Europe to have a common position on Syria,” said Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, speaking at the opening of the XI International Conference Security in Southeast Europe – In Search Of Smart Solutions held in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia.

“We witnessed a war, which has not started yet, while it has been already claiming victims over the past couple of years,” Plevneliev said commenting on the crisis in Syria.

“We witnessed the use of chemical weapon, which affected innocent citizens,” the President remarked.

“At this background, it is very important for Bulgaria and Europe to have a common position. I thank the minister, as well as the member states, for managing to come out with a common position in Europe. It is good to secure the financing of these defence institutions,” Plevneliev added.

“We are witnessing a dramatic and very dynamic change in the field of security, which can be unique in the history of human kind. These changes, that are taking place around us, are characterised with their unpredictability,” the Bulgarian President remarked.
