Turkish FM says the Syrian regime causes spread of radicalism in the country

imgThe cause of the spread of radicalism, intolerance and interfaith clashes in Syria is President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutogu said.

“The main reason for the spread of radicalism in Syria is President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, as the spread of such ideas is in the interests of Syrian regime,” Davutoglu said.

According to Davutoglu, the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey is constantly growing and, according to UN projections, by late 2013 the number may reach one million.

Earlier it was reported that the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey has amounted to some 500,000 people.

Clashes between government forces and the armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 110,000 people and nearly three million are in need of humanitarian aid.
