Belgrade could reconsider its call to Kosovo Serbs to vote in the upcoming elections

Milovan Drecun said on Tuesday that Belgrade “could be forced to reconsider” its call to the Kosovo Serbs to vote in the upcoming elections in the province.

This is because “Priština is refusing to accept voter applications submitted by over 30,000 internally displaced persons,” the chairman of the Serbian Parliament Committee on Kosovo and Metohija said.

Priština’s move has called into question the fairness of the elections, Drecun told reporters in the Serbian parliament.

“Our giving up on the elections would be a coerced measure, which may not have a positive impact on the lives of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, but Belgrade cannot call on the Serbs to turn out and vote just to give legitimacy to irregular elections,” Drecun said.

“Priština is trying to directly influence the results of the elections, and this is unacceptable. If Washington and Brussels fail to exert additional pressure on (Hashim) Thaci, Belgrade may come to a situation where it will have to make the move,” said Drecun.
