Turkey welcomes Tunisia’s new constitution

Turkey’s foreign minister on Thursday welcomed the adoption of a new constitution in Tunisia as a significant step on the road to democracy.

“The people of Tunisia have taken a significant step on course for achieving democratic maturity by passing this important threshold,” he said.

Tunisia’s 217-member National Constituent Assembly (NCA) approved late Sunday the country’s new constitution – the first since the ouster of autocratic President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali three years ago.
