France expresses will to organise new Putin-Poroshenko meeting

France is ready to organise a new meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko, the Elysee Palace said on Thursday.

During a telephone call with Poroshenko, French President Francois Hollande reiterated his readiness, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to organise a new meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia in the so-called Normandy format, meaning a meeting of the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany.

Hollande and Poroshenko discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreement of September 5, especially the need to observe the ceasefire, control the border between Ukraine and Russia, and free the hostages.

The French president reaffirmed that Paris was ready to assist the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in its efforts in Ukraine.
