Moncef Mongi, head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), one of the international organizations involved in the inclusive inter-Malian dialogue, said that the signing Sunday, in Algiers, of the agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mali represents a sound basis for a lasting peace and national reconciliation.
“The agreement (… ) although it doesn’t meet all the demands and doesn’t satisfy all the parties, is based on a lasting peace and reconciliation,” said Mongi in the ceremony of the signing of the agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mali.
He added that the success of this agreement will depend on the capacity of the parties to transcend the ideological, cultural, political barriers and serve a joint cause, that of peace, factor of stability, progress and development.
Representative of the African Union (AU) for the Sahel and Mali Pierre Buyoya hailed this crucial phase of Algiers process despite the difficult and delicate negotiations.
