Mali crisis: CMA could sign peace agreement

Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Mali, Chief of Minusma, Mongi Hamdi said on Monday he convicted that “reason would prevail” so that the other party of the Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) can sign “without delay” the peace and reconciliation agreement, following the Algiers process.
“We hope that reason will prevail so that the CMA can ultimately sign the peace agreement and reconciliation, as soon as possible, to restore peace and stability in Mali,” said Mongi, at the end of the audience granted to him by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.
The peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali was signed on 15 May in Bamako by Malian parties to the dialogue for the settlement of the crisis in the north.
Mongi added that “there was no other choice than the logic of peace” for the definitive resolution of the crisis in Mali for the restoration of stability in that country and in the region.
The head of the Minusma hailed Algeria’s sustained efforts, including President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in the settlement of this crisis.
For his part, Lamamra said the challenge now lies in the signing of the agreement by the other party of the CMA and its concrete implementation on the ground.
