Burkina Faso soldiers arrested over coup

Ouagadougou – A Burkina Faso military official says about 20 soldiers have been arrested since last week for planning to break the leader of a short-lived coup out of prison.
Military spokesperson Guy Herve Ye said more than 10 soldiers were arrested on December 23 while in a meeting in the military barracks. He said they were discussing a plan to attack before Christmas. He said the rest of the soldiers have been arrested throughout the week and more were on the run.
Ye said investigations would continue into the planned attack and who was responsible.
Gen. Gilbert Diendere took power in Burkina Faso for a week in September after the presidential guard staged a coup.
The country’s new president Roch Marc Christian Kabore was sworn in on Tuesday.
