UN Welcomes Ceasefire in Abu Salim

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya ‘UNSMIL’ has welcomed the ceasefire agreement regarding the events in Abu Salim neighborhood in Tripoli.
The Head of UNSMIL Martin Kobler paid tribute, in a statement on Saturday, to efforts of the Presidency Council and the notables of Tarhuna and Gharyan as well as the Supreme Council of Reconciliation in Tripoli, which resulted in an agreement to cease fire, prevent further escalation, stressing the need to implement the provisions of the agreement, and to prosecute those responsible for the violence.
‘The incident proves once more the need for a political solution, and establishment of a unified army under civilian authority that could provide security for all Libyan citizens, Kobler said. He called for activating the Police and security apparatus. The YN Envoy expressed his full support for the Presidency Council as the sole executive authority in Libya.
