After loosing nearly 150 soldiers in a month | Regime forces and loyal militias bring in military reinforcement to repel ISIS attacks in the desert

Reliable sources have informed the Syrian Observatory that regime forces and loyal militias have brought in new military reinforcement to Al-Sukhnah desert in eastern Homs and Al-Rassafah desert in southern Al-Raqqah. The recent-arriving reinforcement, which comprised military vehicles, weapons, ammunition and soldiers of “Liwaa Al-Baqer” and the “Palestinian Liwa al-Quds”, came with the purpose of repelling ISIS cells in the region.

It is worth noting that recent ISIS operations have considerably depleted regime forces which were able to put an end to these operations, despite the daily and intensive airstrikes by Russian fighter jets on ISIS positions. Moreover, ISIS follows tit-for-tat attacks, inflecting the heaviest human and material losses on regime forces and their proxies.

On October 29, regime forces and loyal militiamen, with considerable Russian support, continued sweeping the areas where ISIS cells were active in the Syrian desert in Hama, Homs, Al-Raqqah and Deir Ezzor.

In this context, SOHR sources monitored nearly 20 Russian fighter jets and several regime helicopters striking positions in Al-Raqqah desert and the eastern countryside of Hama.

While on October 26, SOHR sources reported military operations on several frontlines in the Syrian desert, as fierce clashes continued between regime forces and loyal militias on the one hand, and Islamic State members on the other, on frontlines of the eastern countryside of Hama. The clashes coincided with renewed airstrikes by Russian aircraft and regime helicopters.
