The armed conflict in Banjska is a complete collapse of Vucic’s policy in Kosovo, Zarko Korac said in the broadcast “Behind the News” of TV N1. Vucic, according to him, probably does not bear the blame for this event, but bears responsibility.
Zarko Korac, former Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and retired professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade, said in the broadcast “Behind the News” of TV N1 that last night’s appearance of President Aleksandar Vucic on RTS was “confusing” and that the head of state did not answer any important questions.
“I will be very clear, this is a complete collapse of his policy in Kosovo, he is successively making one mistake after another. His key mistake was to demand that Serbs leave all institutions. Today, there probably would have been no shooting at that police if there were Serbs in it,” Korac said.
He added that now both domestic and international public are bidding whether Vucic ordered or knew about the attack in Banja, but added that he personally preferred to believe that the president did not know about it. Korac, however, added that guilt should be distinguished from responsibility, and that while Vucic may not be guilty of the armed conflict in northern Kosovo, he cannot escape responsibility for it.
“He completely controls the main political party of Serbs in Kosovo, there is no other. He has achieved that no Serb goes to the polls, do not tell me that he has no control. He created huge problems for himself in a strong desire to show himself as powerful,” Korac pointed out.
He also asked how Vucic could avoid responsibility for the fact that the people he so much controls do such things. Korać added that everything indicates that Milan Radoicic is, as he said, “Prigožin in an attempt”, behind the action in Banjska.
“The wolf’s mechanism is that it’s always others’ fault. The only thing he did not say was – I gave them confidence, and they betrayed my trust,” Korac noted.
“Vucic will call elections and raise his rating in Kosovo”
Vucic, according to Zarko Korac, will try to get out of this situation by calling elections as soon as possible and winning them.
“He will now try to raise (ratings) on the subject of Kosovo (…) Now they will try to pump up patriotism, they will try to raise the national pathos on the topic of Kosovo and thus go to the elections as the only possible protector of Serbian interests,” Korac is convinced.
He added that Vucic imitates Slobodan Milosevic, only in different conditions.
“Milosevic emphasized European integration a little less, and a little more war as a way out, and he avoids war — even though this is now a step towards war that has happened — and he talks more about European integration, but basically it is the same policy,” Korac underlined.
Speaking about the opposition, Korac said that many opposition parties did not substantially attack Vucic’s policy in Kosovo. He also said that he did not believe that the authorities would meet the opposition parties that requested the Inquiry Committee, i.e. the session of the Serbian Parliament on the events in Banja.
“This is a log revolution, and we know how it ended in Croatia.”
Korac stressed that an attempt at a “log of revolution” took place in Banjska and recalled how it ended in Croatia — with the exodus of a large number of Serbs.
“The same story begins again – a pogrom is brewing for us. It is called a justified attack – we have to attack them, because they want to destroy us,” Korac explained.
He added that the development of the situation in Kosovo now depends on Albin Kurti — whether he will make a more radical move encouraged by what happened and the reaction of the international community.
At the same time, according to Korac, the question arises whether an investigation into the events in Banja will actually be conducted in Serbia, as President Vucic insinuated last night.
The new season of “Behind the News” began on September 18 and airs from Monday to Thursday immediately after the morning news, at 9.20 am.
