The beach house of Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu was damaged in a drone attack claimed by Hezbollah. Footage of the damage spread on social media, and the video was geolocated by CNN. The drone attack penetrated deep into Israel while the militant group was under constant Israeli bombardment.
Netanyahu and his wife were not at home during the Saturday attack in the coastal city of Caesarea, and no one was injured in the attack, according to Israeli officials.
The incident has raised questions about how the drone evaded Israel’s air defense at a time when Hezbollah’s leadership has been severely impacted and the Israeli military is intensifying attacks on parts of Lebanon.
Israeli television channel Kann 11 released a photo of the house, showing a damaged window with cracks and what appears to be burn marks. Kan 11 reported that the bedroom window was damaged.
The Israeli military said on Saturday that “three drones were identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Two drones were intercepted. Another drone struck a structure in the Caesarea area.”
The spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister confirmed the attack on that day, but Israeli authorities only acknowledged yesterday that the drone had struck the house.
Hezbollah yesterday claimed “full and exclusive responsibility” for the attack and issued a warning: “If we haven’t reached you yet, know that only days, nights, and the battlefield stand between us and you.”
In a post on X following the Saturday attack, Netanyahu blamed “Iranian agents” for the strike, stating that they had “made a grave mistake.”
“I say to the Iranians and their partners in the axis of evil: ‘Anyone who harms the citizens of the State of Israel will pay a heavy price,'” Netanyahu added. Iran denied involvement in the drone attack, stating that the operation was “carried out by Hezbollah.”
