Greta Thunberg arrested again

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested during pro-Palestinian protests this morning in Copenhagen.

“Students Against Occupation (a pro-Palestinian activist group) and I are in the administrative building of the University of Copenhagen,” Thunberg wrote this morning in the description of a video she posted on her Instagram.

“The police were called, and they forcefully entered the building armed with assault rifles. They are chasing us while we are just talking,” she wrote.

Along with the second video, Thunberg added:
“Students have been arrested and are currently being taken to the station.”

Protests on campus in support of Palestinians have erupted around the world in the 11 months since the militant group Hamas carried out an attack in Israel, which in turn triggered a deadly operation by the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza and the West Bank.

The police in Copenhagen said that around 20 protesters gathered at the university, and six were arrested, reported the Danish media Ekstra Bladet.

Danish TV2 released footage of Thunberg being detained and taken away in a police van. The police have not confirmed the identity of those arrested, but a spokesperson for Students Against Occupation told Reuters that Thunberg was held by the police.

In October of last year, the Israeli army criticized Thunberg after she sent a message supporting the Palestinians shortly after the Hamas attack. In December, Thunberg accused Israel of “war crimes” and “genocide” as the Israeli offensive in Gaza intensified.
