TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran believes that the presidency term of Mahmoud Abbas in the Palestinian self-rule government is over and that new parliamentary elections should be held in Palestine, said Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Wednesday.
“We think Mahmoud Abbas’ term in the self-rule government is over and new elections should be held”, Mottaki reiterated while addressing a forum of NGOs and popular organizations in Tehran for supporting Gazans.
Mahmoud Abbas’ Presidency term expired on January 8 and would not allow the holding of new parliamentary polls before they are due in January 2010.
Mottaki took Israel’s Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak as the main culprits in charge of the onslaught against Gaza, and called for their trial as war criminals
The Iranian top diplomat said, “Malaysia has passed a law according to which a special court will be responsible for filing and pursuing a complaint against the Zionist leaders.”
He said that the Islamic Republic has also followed suit and plans to lodge a complaint against Israeli leaders.
Reiterating that the people who fight for freedom and against colonialism have the right to continue their campaign, the Iranian foreign minister stated, “Therefore, they are entitled to possess arms. All the resistance movements throughout the world are armed and equipped and they are so now.”
He said that asking from where and when the resistance attained its weapons is a deviatory question.
Mottaki also described Iran’s support for the people in Gaza as part of its duties with regard to the security of the Muslim world, the Middle East and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
