Bulgaria said Tuesday it is continuing with preparations to join the European Union’s passport-free Schengen zone.
‘Bulgaria will be technically in a position to become part of the Schengen area in March,’ foreign ministry spokeswoman Vessela Cherneva said in Sofia.
Cherneva admitted that EU experts had made critical comments in a report on Bulgaria, particularly about its land borders, but said the recommendations it made were ‘not at all dramatic’ and could could easily be in place by the March deadline.
