EU says Mladic arrest is important, but Serbia must do more for its EU accession

The arrest of war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic was an important step, but Serbia must still address “a number of things” on its path to European integration, the EU’s foreign affairs chief said Friday.

“The arrest of Mr. Mladic is an important moment for Serbia and as you know I congratulated President (Boris) Tadic on that yesterday,” the EU’s top diplomat, Catherine Ashton, said in Kosovo. “But the road to the European Union requires a number of things, from everyone,” she warned.

“It requires a lot of work on technical issues that need to be addressed and it also requires us to move forward in a political direction with the whole of the European Union.”
