Dutch parliament refuses to ratify SAA

The Dutch parliament today decided not to ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) before Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz’s official report.

The SAA was signed between theh EU and Serbia in the spring of 2008, and must be confirmed in parliaments of all EU member-states.

“Unfortunately, the parliamentary majority did not accept the proposal,” Dutch Parliament Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Henk Jan Ormel said.

The Christian Democratic Party told B92 that the Dutch MPs would not yet vote on the SAA ratification because they were still waiting for Brammertz’s report.

The Netherlands was conditioning continuation of Serbia’s EU integration process by full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and Ratko Mladić’s arrest.
