Turkish Cypriot leader unhappy about the speed of negotiations

Turkish Cypriot leader Derviş Eroğlu has accused his Greek Cypriot partners of foot-dragging in peace talks on the divided island but said progress can still be achieved by an October deadline set by the United Nations.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Cypriot leaders last week to overcome their differences by then, with a view to ending a conflict that is harming Turkey’s accession to the European Union.

Eroğlu said that peace talks were due to start next week, with two meetings scheduled each week to narrow differences between the two sides on a range of issues.
