The EU started Informal discussions in Brussels with Montenegro and the introduction of EU laws to the Montenegrin negotiators.
The meeting’s purpose is to familiarize Montenegrins with EU judiciary laws, anti-corruption policies, fundamental rights and rights of citizens. These laws and policies must adopted before accession.
“This is an opportunity for the EU experts to explain those issues that will be emphasised during the accession talks,” Alberto Cammarata, from the EU delegation in Podgorica said.
This process, also known as “screening”, represents the first step in negotiations between the EU and candidate countries.
