Georgian FM thinks understanding with Serbia on Abkhazia can be reached

Georgian Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze commented on recent Serbian President’s remarks on the possible recognition of Abkhazia’s independence:

“First of all on this issue I must say that the people of Georgia and Serbia are bounded with the same historical past, Orthodox Christianity and cultural relations. In 1990s the two countries have passed through the same tragic past. Georgia, like the Serbian people, tends to the European structures. Everyone knows that the EU strongly supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and we are confident that observance of international law, that envisages protection of Georgia’s territorial integrity and respect for its sovereignty is part of Serbia’s national interests,” Kalandadze said.
