Podgorica to increase diplomatic relations with Pristina

Montenegrin Foreign minister Igor Luksic said that Podgorica will upgrade diplomatic relations with Pristina by the end of the year but no Montenegrin ambassador to Kosovo will be appointed yet.

No ambassador will be deployed until Podgorica’s demand for Montenegrins to be represented in Kosovo’s parliament is fulfilled, Luksic said on Tuesday.

He told a press conference that Montenegro was ready however to have representation in Pristina “at the level of charge d’affaires” – a diplomatic head of mission with less seniority than an ambassador.

When the parliamentary representation issue was solved, this would change, he said.

“I believe that once when this, I would say, formal obstacle is also removed, we will upgrade the charge d’affaires to the level of ambassador,” he said.
