Musharraf exempted to appear court for treason trial

The special court that is hearing the treason case against the former Pakistani president, Pervez Musharraf, has exempted the military strongman from attending the hearing of the case on Monday due to his illness.

The court has adjourned the hearing till January 6 and instructed submission of the medical reports of Musharraf in the next hearing.

The government leveled five charges against Musharraf, urging to the special court to award the military ruler death penalty or life imprisonment in high treason case for abrogating, subverting, suspending, holding in abeyance and attempting to conspire against the 1973 Constitution by declaring emergency and overthrowing the superior judiciary in November 2007.
