Human rights should not impose a culture on other cultures and nations, because every culture is of a special value, secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) said. Addressing the opening ceremony of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting on ‘Human Rights and Cultural Diversity’ here in Tehran on Monday, the OIC secretary general said people should have the right to protect their identity and choose their life style freely.
He further stressed that Islam considers specific concepts and notions for human rights, and pointed to justice as among the main constituents of human rights according to Islam.
He also noted the OIC measures and initiatives for protecting cultural diversity, and added, “To respect cultural diversity, we have to bear each other and avoid hatred.”
