At least 11 killed after mortar strike in Aleppo, northern Syria

At least 11 people, including three children and a woman, were killed and eight others wounded when a mortar shell fell on a district of Aleppo city, north Syria, on Thursday.

The area is controlled by the regular forces, according to a statement by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

In the northeastern governorate of Al-Hassakah governorate, fierce battles broke out between militiamen belonging to the ruling Arab Socialist Baathist Party (ASBP) and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as a result of an attempt by the latter to break into the local premises of the ASBP.

The ISIL fighters hoisted their black flag on the ASBP building while the fighting is still going on, SOHR reported, citing witnesses.
