Attacks in Central African Republic can be war crimes

New York – The UN Security Council condemns the recent upsurge in violence and instability in the Central African Republic and said some attacks may constitute war crimes.
Central African Republic broke out in the widespread sectarian violence after Muslim rebels Seleka overthrew President in 2013 and Balaka anti-Christian militia formed to fight them. Sectarian clashes between rival Christian and Muslim militias erupted in recent weeks.
The Security Council said that those responsible for the abuses and violations of international human rights and humanitarian law must be held accountable, and reiterated its intention to impose sanctions on those responsible for the latest violence.
The Security Council called on the transitional government in the country to launch investigations to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
