UK soldiers in Tunisia to provide training in border protection

A British military training team had arrived in Tunisia last February to provide practical and theoretical courses in border protection, spokesman for the National Defence Ministry Lieutenant-Colonel Belhassen Oueslati said on Tuesday.
In a statement to TAP, he said a first session of a training programme for the Tunisian Army began last February 8. The second is scheduled for the end of the current month.
The programme includes theoretical courses to be provided in military institutions as well as practical exercises in training and shooting, he noted.
Belhassen Oueslati said the training is part of a partnership programme.
Tunisia chooses, as part of agreements signed with its partners, areas of co-operation likely to increase the operational capacity of the National Army, he said.
He recalled that British forces have already provided training to Tunisian troops in military engineering (detection and handling of suspected bodies).
UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon on Monday told UK Parliament a training team of around 20 troops are in Tunisia to help Tunisian forces increase security in the border with Libya.
