Luxembourg foreign minister: EU interested in continuing dialogue with Iran

TEHRAN – Iran’s ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg,’,Ali Ahani, met Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn.Tuesday and reviewed Iran-EU relations during Luxenbourg EU presidency which ended on 30 June.
It was noted by the two sides that during the six-1 month period EU-Iran relationship” made positive strides,; Iranian diplomatic sources told IRNA in Brussels.
Ahani and Asselborn hoped that the EU-Iran negotiations on a Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) as well as Iran’s nuclear issue would reach desired results in favor of the both sides.
Underlining Tehran’s positive role for regional stability, Asselborn said that the 25-member European bloc was interested to continue its dialogue and engagementwith Iran.
He referred to Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and noted that finding access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes was a legal right of the country,
Asselborn also hoped that EU-Iran negotiations would resolve the nuclear issue.
Ahani, on his part, briefed the minister on the recent presidential election in Iran saying that people’s massive turnout in the voting indicated that real democrary prevalled in the Islamic Republic.
He also reiterated that Iran’s;foreign’policy would continue based on constructive cooperation and strengthening of foreign relations upon mutual respect.
Asselborn expressed hope to visit Iran within coming months after the new Iranian government takes office.
Iran’s president-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to swear-in at the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) on August 4 and his cabinet is expected to start its work by the end of the month
