Majlis asserts Iran must not submit to bullying

Tehran Times Political Desk
TEHRAN – 211 MPs in a letter on Wednesday warned the government not to submit to the bullying of world powers over the country’s nuclear program. Parts of the letter which was read out by a member of the Majlis Presiding Board Hossien Nejabat in the Majlis open session on Wednesday are as follows:
“The rights of nations according to international law and far from any pressure and threats must be respected.
“According to Article 4 of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Article 3 of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Charter, peaceful nuclear activities are the inalienable right of all signatories and members of this well-known treaty and international organization.
“Unfortunately, the Islamic Republic of Iran which has been a signatory of the NPT for three decades and has carried out all due measures to remove ambiguities over its nuclear program is now facing illogical pressure from powers who are not interested in the scientific development of other countries.
“We, as representatives of the Iranian nation warn the government that it has not the right to trade the Iranian nation’s inalienable nuclear rights with any power and it must not submit to the bullying of world powers.
“If Iran is referred to the UN Security Council the government will be obliged to act upon the Majlis ratification to cease all its voluntary suspensions and to resume all its peaceful nuclear activities.”
Meanwhile, Majlis Energy Committee Chairman, Kamal Daneshyar told reporters on Wednesday that there was no legal basis for IranÂ’s nuclear case to be referred to the Security Council.
He stressed that Iran must not give up its strong positions over its nuclear program, adding that all the countries in the world emphasize the need for referring the United StatesÂ’ nuclear case to the Security Council and its nuclear disarmament.
MP Iraj Nadimi also in a letter called on the Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki to pursue the nationÂ’s inalienable nuclear rights and consider the different dimensions of the Russian proposal in line with national interests.
The letter was read out by Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel in the Majlis open session on Wednesday.
