Rafsanjani: Iran’s Nuclear Programs Intended for Peaceful Purposes

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Tehran’s interim Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities by no means follow military purposes. Addressing worshippers at Tehran University campus on Friday, Ayatollah Hashemi said, “Iran does not pursue military purposes in its nuclear program. It is the West that attempts to deal with Iran’s nuclear issue as if it is harmful to the world.”

Ayatollah Hashemi stressed that Iran has enriched uranium all by itself relying on domestic expertise, adding that Tehran still considers negotiation as the only means for building confidence in regard to its nuclear activities.

Tehran’s interim Friday prayer leader warned western states not to endanger Iran, the Middle East region and the entire globe through their unreasonable and irrational behavior, because Iran would by no means forgo its legitimate right to gain access to peaceful nuclear technology.

Ayatollah Hashemi, who is also head of Iran’s Expediency Council, said the decision made by the West to hinder scientific progress in Iran is an age-old mistake, adding, “Preventing Iran from reaching nuclear know-how is impossible.”

At the end of his sermons, Ayatollah Hashemi touched upon the anniversary of the shameful defeat of the US in the desert of Tabas in the very early days of the victory of the Islamic revolution.
