Fears of humanitarian catastrophe in Lebanon

2007-soir-lebanon.jpgAmid the rubble of Lebanon, a humanitarian crisis is unfolding. That is the warning from aid agencies, as Israel’s air attacks on continue. Hundreds of thousands of people fleeing their homes are finding it increasingly difficult to find food and other essentials, says the UN’s World Food Programme. It is finalising an emergency plan to reach the most needy.
More than 300 lives have been lost in Lebanon in nine days of conflict between Israel and Hizbollah. Around 30 Israelis have died.

Today Israel said there was heavy fighting between its soldiers and militants inside the Lebanese border. It also said a fresh wave of rockets fired by Hizbollah had landed in northern Israel, causing no casualties.
