Iran’s Saffron Sold under Foreign Countries’ Trade Marks

A0009319.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iran’s saffron is exported to EU states in bulks and it is sold under the trade marks of other countries, specially Spain, after its packaging is changed, an official said on Monday.

Speaking to FNA in the northeastern city of Mashhad, Managing Director of Cooperatives Union of the northeastern Saffron-rich province of Khorasan Razavi, Amir Mas’oud Pezhman-pour called on the relevant Iranian officials to prevent any further export of the commodity in bulks and said packaging exportable saffron is much more in the interest of the country.

He said Iranian Villagers’ Cooperative Union alone has exported 18 tons of saffron to Spain, India, Italy and France during the last (Iranian) year.

The official said rival countries have started an unfair wave of propaganda about the unhealthiness of Iran’s saffron products and exports in a bid to beat their number one competitor, Iran.
