FM Warns EU Iran will not Remain Calm in case of Sanctions

A0146480.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian Foreign Ministry, responding to a recent statement by the EU Ministerial Council, stressed that in case the EU opts for the path of sanctions and threats, Iran will not remain indifferent and it will not allow the other party to trespass its rights.

The ministry regretted that the statement includes views which are in direct opposition to the efforts made by EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana during his talks with Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, saying that the statement resembles the goals and policies of the radical wings and parties in the United States.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry statement further described the last round of talks between Larijani and Solana as a logical trend which aimed to remove the other sides’ concerns about Iran’s diversion from peaceful nuclear activities and meantime to assure Iran’s full access to peaceful nuclear technology as an established right.

The statement added that the Iran-EU talks, if backed by the EU Ministerial Council, could have been continued and put an end to the worries and tensions which are created artificially.

The statement continued, “It seems that the EU Council has embarked on issuing such a statement due in an organized manner, because the council has not remained loyal to the agreements reached in the four-month negotiations and thus it has impaired Iran’s confidence seriously.”

Stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran abides by its agreements with the European side, it added, “If the EU has adopted the stance of certain powers such as the US, it should consider the aftermath of its behavior.”

Reminding that Iran’s detailed response to the EU package is still valid, the Foreign Ministry added that Tehran’s response is more generous and serious than the Europeans’ one over Tehran’s nuclear program.

It further underscored, “We invite the EU to adopt a stance based on negotiation and interaction between the two sides and affirm its real commitment in supporting regional and global peace and security. Given the Islamic Republic of Iran’s full commitment to the NPT and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations, raising such allegations and comparing Iran with certain countries which are producing weapons of mass destruction is aimed at exacerbating political situation.”

The ministry also warned, “The improper measure is considered as punishment of a member of NPT which is abiding by its commitments, thus, it will create a big political mistake. Certain countries, unfortunately, are making use of international communities and resolutions including IAEA and NPT as a lever to pursue their ambitions. They tarnish the image and legitimacy of such bodies.”

It added that Iran abides by its commitments in the international system, but if the other sides take another attitude to impose pressure, sanction and threat, “Iranians will respond to the double standards and will not permit any country to infringe its legitimate rights.”

The statement asserted, “The EU and all other sides should know that Iran’s referral to the UN Security Council is illegal and unlawful and contrary to the long-term negotiations between Iranian and European negotiators over the nuclear dossier. The carrot and stick policy is a big mistake adopted by the world powers. Tehran will reply good-will or ill-will initiatives reciprocally and invites the European side to come back to the negotiation table.”
