UNSC Support for Israel Endangers Regional Peace

Addressing the 7th Conference of the General Assembly of Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP), Ahmadinejad reminded that the UN Security Council, under the pressure of the US and Britain, kept silent over the Israeli invasion of Lebanon for one month and refrained from issuing any resolution in this regard.

“It is a crystal clear fact that as along as such bullying powers are present on the scene of international decision-making, the rights of the Lebanese people could never be restored,” he continued.

The president further pointed out that Iraqi people are severely suffering from insecurity and terrorism, which he said are the products of the US occupation of that country.

“Which world body can try and condemn the US administration for deceiving the world and US public opinion, for the massacre of the Iraqi people, and for the expansion of terrorism?” he asked, adding, “Could anyone pin hope in the establishment of peace and justice under such circumstances, where there exists no world body or authority on which nations can rely?”

“What if the US wishes to repeat Lebanon and Iraq’s incidents somewhere else,” he continued.

The head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) further viewed proliferation of nuclear arsenals by uncontrollable states as among other instances proving the inefficiency of the international system.

He questioned the reasoning behind the arming of such insurgent regimes as the Israeli entity which do not abide by the international rules and principles, and asked, “Could the present international system respond to the aforesaid challenges?”

The Iranian president also said it is a shame that the UN Security Council threatens those countries which conduct peaceful activities and programs, and reminded, “The world bodies and organizations use our own reserves to exert pressure on us.”

He said frequent instances have revealed that the international systems cannot solve man’s problems, and defend the rights of the nations based on a justice-centered approach.

Ahmadinejad said that the world developments show that nations are now vigilant and express their objection to unjust relations, stressing, “There is no doubt that unjust relations will soon be faded away, and therefore, we must look for a new world system based on justice and spirituality.”

Reiterating the commonalities of the Asian nations, he said even many African and European nations think like Asian states, “and this is very promising because we can make a proper use of these particulars and pioneer to design new world systems.”
