Thailand Stresses Consolidation of Ties with Iran

A01461131.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Vice-Speaker of Thailand’s Legislative Assembly reiterated the urgency for the strengthening of mutual parliamentary interactions with Iran, saying that Bangkok attaches much value and significance to the expansion of ties with Iran’s rich civilization.

Speaking in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Bangkok Mohsen Pak Ayeen, the Thai official expressed pleasure with the desirable arrangement of the 7th meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) in Tehran, and expressed the hope that the member states would witness giant strides in the reinvigoration of parliamentary cooperation in Asia under Iran’s presidency.

He also voiced support for Iran’s efforts to turn the Association of Asian Parliaments into the Assembly of Asian Parliaments, and stressed that the Asian continent should play a more active role in global developments, given its strong economy, rich culture and efficient manpower.

The lawmaker further pointed to the need for the strengthening of bilateral parliamentary interactions with Iran, and viewed exchange of views and delegations for the expansion of friendly cooperation with Iran as important.

For his part, Iran’s ambassador to Thailand Mohsen Pak Ayeen pointed to the establishment of Asian Fund as one of the long-term goals of Asian parliaments, and further stressed serious efforts of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly to implement the agreements reached in the 7th meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace.

Pak Ayeen also reiterated that as the greatest continent of the world, Asia should take up a more influential role in the establishment of global peace and stability.

The 7th meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) was held in Tehran from 12 to 14 November 2006.
