President back home from Qatar

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived here Saturday morning after a day-long visit to Qatar.

The president headed Iran’s delegation to the inaugural ceremony of the 15th Asian Games (Doha 2006) Friday evening.

While in Doha, the Iranian president talked with Iranian athletes attending the games and met with Qatari Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyah and Iranian nationals in Qatar.

He also visited the Asian Games Village and quarters of Iranian athletes and held talks with sportsmen and authorities.

The 15th Asian Games opened with a spectacular extravaganza Friday evening attended by over 13,000 athletes and senior officials of 45 Asian countries.

The competitions officially begin in Qatar today.
