US Presence Responsible for Iraq’s Domestic Conflicts

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- A senior lawmaker here on Tuesday stressed that deployment of alien troops in Iraq is the root cause of unfriendly interactions among the Iraqi people who have always conducted a peaceful life alongside one another prior to the occupation of that country.

According to a statement released be the Information and Media Department of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaoddin Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with 40 Iraqi university professors.

During the meeting, the MP noted the significance of the two countries’ sentimental bonds, common religious, historical and cultural interests and shared borders, and further stressed the firm determination of the Iranian government and parliament to reinvigorate the trend of the two countries’ relations and cooperation in all the various areas.

He also reminded that support for Iraq’s territorial integrity as well as maintenance of national solidarity and unity set Iran’s official policy on Iraq, and mentioned that the Iraqi nation, specially the educated class of the Iraqi society and thinkers carry a heavy responsibility and play a decisive role with regard to the aforementioned criteria.

The legislative official also underlined that withdrawal of the occupying troops plays an effective role in the establishment of peace and security in Iraq.

He also pointed to the Iraqi president’s request from Iran for using the Islamic Republic’s expert views about security matters, and criticized the sensitivity of the American troops in this regard, saying that the US opposition is associated with a big question mark.

“This stance indicates the alien troops’ sensitivity and opposition to the restoration of security in Iraq ,” Boroujerdi stated.

Elsewhere, the lawmaker urged the US and Britain to answer as to why the Iraqi nation became involved with conflicts, differences and discord after the deployment of the alien troops in that country while they, including the Shiites, the Sunnites and other religious sects and tribes, have always led a peaceful life all throughout the centuries.

To conclude his remarks, the official expressed the hope that the Iraqi nation would go past the present stage through showing vigilance and safeguarding the country’s national unity and establish an advanced, free and independent country through relying on their own potentials and capabilities.
