Ahmadinejad Terms Sanctions Inefficient Weapon

A02370185.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Sunday stressed that imposing pressures and sanctions on his country would yield no fruit for the other party, describing such measures as inefficient weapons.

Speaking to reporters after attending an open parliament session here today, where he submitted the country’s new year budget bill for approval, Ahmadinejad responded to a question about Iran’s likely reaction if sanctions are intensified on the Islamic Republic, and said, “Sanctions are viewed as an old fashion, rusty and inefficient weapon today.”

“This kind of literature ( force and threats) has been used for the last 30 years, but it has never produced any results for the other party when it has been utilized against Iran because Iran is a powerful, great and influential country with highly extensive political and economic relations,” he stressed.

The Iranian president further stated that his administration has prepared itself for all types of conditions, and pointing to those states which have incited the sanction option at the UN Security Council, he said, “They need us more than we need them.”

“In the budget bill we have proposed to the parliament for the new (Iranian) year, the required measures have been devised and predictions have been made in order not to let our domestic economy and investment and economic growth sustain even the smallest effect from (such) developments,” he continued.

Ahmadinejad viewed sanctions and pressures on Iran as a part of the enemies’ psychological war on his country, and stressed that the other party is merely chanting the slogan of war but is, in practice, very fearful of taking action.

“Those who always blow the horn of war in the world have been stopped by the Iranian nation and do not dare to speak of war against us,” he continued.

Meantime, the Iranian president pointed to the West’s hypocrisy and said, “While they imagine that they want to enter a quarrel with us, they have sent hundreds of messages in which they have asked us for talks.”

“Enemies cannot hurt or strike us because they have proved in the last 27 years that whenever they can strike us they do it, when has it ever happened that they could hit us and they didn’t?”

The president reiterated that his administration, the parliament, the nation and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei are all prepared to confront any kind of situation which may arise in future.
