According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau, Jalili made the remarks in a meeting here on Wednesday with the chairman of the German Parliament’s Green Party Fraction, Fritz Cohen.

During the meeting, the German legislative official stressed the need for continued direct contacts with Iran and expansion of dialogues between the two countries, and reiterated Iran’s undeniable right to access peaceful civilian nuclear technology.

For his part, Jalili welcomed exchange of political and parliamentary delegations between the two countries, and described direct dialogue and talks as the prerequisite of the civilized world.

Meantime, he said that according to Iran’s 20-year prospect plan, all its peaceful nuclear activities have been designed to serve civilian needs and provide for the country’s local energy needs.

Underlining Iran’s strong opposition to the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), the senior diplomat said, “Such weapons cannot bring power and mightiness to any country as the mightiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been resulted from the popular support for it.”

He further criticized West’s treatment of Iran’s issue and the hasty referral of the case to the UN Security Council, which he reminded took place in mere disrespect for Iran’s confidence building measures, and mentioned, “In case the West is in search of trust and confidence, it can achieve this goal.”

Jalili voiced Iran’s preparedness to attend any kind of talks based on two fundamental points, namely, recognition of Iran’s legitimate right of accessing nuclear technology and mutual confidence building.

Also during the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest conditions in the Middle-East, where the Iranian deputy foreign minister censured the approach adopted by Europe and the West in dealing with the Zionist regime’s possession of nuclear weapons.

He also blasted the West’s ignoring and inaction in the face of the aggressive nature of the Israeli regime, which he stressed is the root cause of continued crisis in the region.

Pointing to the Zionist regime’s crimes committed against the oppressed Palestinian nation, he also blasted indifference of the proponents of human rights in Europe in this regard.
