Merkel-Mubarak talks

CAIRO. — German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday on means of reviving the Mideast peace process and boosting bilateral co-operation, Germany ambassador to Cairo Bernd Erbel said here yesterday.

Erbel made the remarks at a Press conference on Merkel’s upcoming Mideast regional tour which also takes her to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

Underlining the importance of the Merkel-Mubarak talks, Erbel urged regional countries to join in the efforts of the Quartet, which groups the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia, to revive the Middle East peace process.

Erbel told the reporters that Merkel and Mubarak will also deal with other issues including the situation in Iraq, Sudan and Somalia as well as the Iranian nuclear programme.

According to the German ambassador, Merkel, while in Cairo, will meet with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef on Saturday and inaugurate on Sunday the German-Egyptian Economic Forum. — Xinhua.
