Syria and Indonesia sign cooperation pact

DAMASCUS – Syria and Indonesia Sunday signed an agreement for economic, scientific and technical cooperation, Syria’s official SANA news agency said.

The agreement was signed by Syrian and Indonesian Foreign Ministers Walid Al Moallem and Hassan Wirajuda, who described relations as ‘excellent on the political level.’

Wirajuda arrived Saturday on a three-day visit, exploring a possible role for his country in a Middle East peace settlement and to mediate between rival Palestinian Hamas and Fatah factions.

He was expected to meet Syrian President Bashar Assad later in the day. He is also to meet with Khaled Mashaal, exiled head of Hamas’ political bureau. He met earlier in the day with Syrian Vice- President Farouk Al Sharaa.
