Iran, Cuba Underline Educational Cooperation

Visiting chancellor of Havana University and chairman of the Iranian parliament’s Training and Research Commission in a meeting here in Tehran on Sunday explored avenues for cooperation between the two countries’ scientific and research centers. A statement released by the Information and Media Department of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said that during the meeting, the two sides stressed the need for cultural exchanges and increased educational and research cooperation between the two countries’ scientific centers, given the cordial and developing ties between Iran and Cuba.

Chancellor of Cuba’s Havana University noted Iran’s significant position in the region, and praised the Islamic Republic’s scientific progresses.

“Achieving scientific independence from hegemonic powers is of grave importance, and Iran’s standing is very significant not only in the Middle-East but also in the entire world due to the progresses it has made,” he continued.

He said, “As a scientific pole, Iran will be an important player in the future of the world, which will be a multi-polar situation, due to the fact that Iran is located in a specially important region.”

For his part, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s Training and Research Commission pointed to the two countries’ commonalities, and stressed the need for the expansion of scientific and research cooperation between the two sides.

“Scientific cooperation among independent states can pave an increasingly convenient ground for the resistance of these states against hegemonic countries,” he said.

Ali Abbas-pour Fard Tehrani mentioned the point that the world people can lead a free life in light of scientific cooperation and extend their humanitarian ties.

He further briefed the Cuban official about the progresses made in Iran’s research centers and higher education sector following the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

The lawmaker praised the start of the Persian Language seat at Havana University, and voiced preparedness of the Islamic Consultative Assembly for increased cooperation in this ground.
