TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iraq’s Vice-President Tariq al-Hashimi met with his Iranian counterpart Parviz Davoudi here in Tehran on Sunday.
During the meeting, al-Hashimi expressed the hope that his current visit to Tehran would yield fruitful results for both nations and countries.
He also said that the two countries’ adjacency should be used as an opportunity serving the two nations’ interests.
Further Al-Hashimi voiced regret over the Iraq-Iran blur relations during the rule of Saddam’s Ba’thist government, reminding that the two nations lost many invaluable opportunities due to the then improper relations.
For his part, the Iranian first vice-president expressed the hope that the visit to Tehran by his Iraqi counterpart would produce desirable results.
The Iraqi vice-president, heading a delegation, arrived in Tehran Sunday morning.
Upon his arrival, al-Hashemi and his entourage were received by Iranian deputy foreign minister Baqeri.
During his trip, Tariq al-Hashimi is due to attend meetings with different high-ranking Iranian officials to discuss bilateral ties and exchange views about regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.
