US Rules out Al-Qaeda-Iraq Links

Washington, April 6 (Prensa Latina) The Washington Post revealed on Friday that there was no direct cooperation between the Al-Qaeda network and late Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, as the US government has stated.

According to The Post report, US military experts arrived at such conclusion based on the testimonies of Hussein and his advisors, as well as files confiscated by the Pentagon troops.

The daily report chiefly quotes an internal investigation of the US Department of Defense, which confirms that Iraq and al Qaeda had no operational links..

A study carried out by the general inspector of the ministry of Defense, Thomas Gimble, supported the statements announced by the national intelligence.

The alleged links between Baghdad and the Osama Bin Laden organization were one of the main pretexts used by the administration of President George W. Bush to attack the Arab country in March 2003.

Gimble s file also criticizes US Armed Forces top ranking officers for irregularities in intelligence operations, carried out before the beginning of the aggression.
