Rice-Mottaki Meeting not on Iran’s Agenda

A02804162.jpgIran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Reza Baqeri said his chief has no program for meeting his US counterpart Condoleezza Rice on the sidelines of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iraq’s neighbors in Sharm ol-Sheikh, Egypt. Speaking to Iran’s Arabic language channel Al-Alam here on Monday, Baqeri further said in response to the question whether Iran would attend any ministerial summit of Iraq’s neighboring states outside Iraq that Tehran has made no decision in this regard yet.

He said that Tehran would announce its decision in due time.

Earlier, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari had announced that the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iraq’s neighboring states would be held on May 3 and 4 in Sharm ol-Sheikh.

Meantime, the Iranian diplomat reminded that the Islamic Republic favors arrangement of a regional and international summit on Iraq’s issues in Baghdad or any other cities of that country, adding, “Any decision to hold these summits outside Iraq should be conceded by all the relevant sides.”

The Iranian deputy foreign minister voiced Iran’s strong support for any kind of moves or activities leading to the establishment of security, stability and peace in Iraq.
