Visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari on Thursday underlined here importance of the upcoming neighboring states’ meeting on Iraq due to be held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on May 3-4. Zebari, who arrived in the Turkish capital Ankara on Thursday, told a news conference that the participants will discuss ways to ensure stability in Iraq, and possible contributions of Iraq’s neighbors and international actors to Iraq’s stability during the two-day meeting.
The official also expressed belief that the rest of this year is of critical importance for Iraq’s future.
Earlier in the day, Zebari met his Turkish counterpart AbdullahGul and called on the Turkish government to send a minister to the meeting.
Zebari also said at the news conference that he got the impression from Gul that Turkey would exert efforts for a successful meeting.
International and regional organizations, five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, representatives ofG-8 countries as well as foreign ministers of Iraq and its neighboring states are expected to attend the gathering.
