Iranian Divers Released

The 12 Iranian divers who had been arrested by the coast guard of the United Arab Emirates were released on Wednesday, Iran’s ambassador to the UAE Hamid Reza Asefi said. Speaking to FNA, Asefi noted his meeting with UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Muhammad bin Rashid al-Maktum, and said, “During the meeting, the UAE prime minister said that he had issued the required instructions for the release of the 12 divers.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Asefi said that the Islamic Republic embassy in UAE was pursuing the case, adding that the UAE’s deputy foreign minister had promised to set the 12 Iranian divers free in a period of maximum two days.

The 12 Iranian citizens work for a private Iranian company and dive in international waters in search of pearl oysters.
