First Aid Trucks Since Hamas Takeover Arrive in Gaza

1223.jpgAid trucks from the United Nations World Food Program have rolled into the Gaza Strip for the first time since Hamas took control of the Palestinian territory last week.Israeli military spokesman, Shlomo Dror says Israel allowed at least 12 trucks carrying food and medical supplies into the territory Tuesday.Authorities say Israeli ambulances brought six wounded Palestinians from the Gaza border to hospitals in Israel for treatment.

Meanwhile, the chief U.N. Palestinian aid coordinator warned that if the situation in Gaza becomes more hopeless for people living there, the territory could become a breeding ground for more extremism. David Shearer said more radical activity will not confine itself to Gaza and could ultimately impact Israel.

He said Gaza needs to receive at least 200 truckloads of humanitarian aid every day.

Between 150 and 600 Palestinians are now in the concrete tunnel that leads to the Israeli side of the Erez border crossing between Israel and Gaza.

Israel sealed all border crossings into Gaza when the militant group Hamas took control of the territory.
