Leader Terms Unity of Iraqi People a Religious Necessity

A028599011.jpgSupreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei viewed deployment of occupying troops as the most important problem of Iraq, and further called on Iraqi Sunnis, Shiites, Arabs and Kurds to show enhanced unity and Solidarity. The leader made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad on Thursday, where he described unity and cooperation among all Iraqi peoples and groups as the main prerequisite for overcoming problems in that country.

He also described unity of the Sunnis, Shiites, Arabs, Kurds and all other peoples of Iraq as a necessity and a religious obligation, adding that all the aforesaid should cooperate with each other and reinvigorate Nuri al-Maliki’s administration.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always favored an independent Iraq with a popular government and it views the incumbent government of Iraq as a true instance of popular governments and it (Iran) fully supports that government,” he stressed.

Ayatollah Khamenei further voiced pleasure in the firm determination of the Iraqi prime minister and officials to solve problems and confront threats, and said, “As regards human and spiritual riches, Iraq is unique among Arab countries and the efforts made by the statesmen of that country to get Iraq back to normal conditions and use the (said) wealth in line with the interests of the Iraqi people are a part of a huge task.”

He also rejected the United States’ allegation that Iran is fueling violence in Iraq, and stressed that the presence of US troops was the biggest obstacle to restoring security.

The Leader reiterated that it was the presence of the US-led forces that was the “biggest misfortune” shadowing Iraq.

“The occupiers claim that if they exit now, Iraq will be destroyed. Whereas if the occupiers leave, all the Iraqi officials will move with full force to solve the people’s problems,” he said.

Ayatollah Khamenei took occupiers responsible for the present problems, difficulties, calamities and massacres in Iraq, saying that either they are directly involved in such issues or problems arise due to their flaws, ignorance and errors.

“Through their embassy in Baghdad and by using their intelligence services and Zionists, Americans are interfering in Iraq’s military, political and security issues,” he continued.

“The US are trying to put in power a lackey government” in Iraq, Khamenei added. “But the US policy will definitely fail and the victors in this arena will be the Iraqi people and the faithful patriots and those keen on Iraq’s issues.”

To conclude his remarks, the Supreme Leader viewed Iraq’s future as lustrous, and said that Iran is very optimistic about the future of that country, adding that enemies of the Iraqi nation will have to sustain increasing failures and defeats in future.

For his part, Iraqi prime minister voiced deep pleasure in his meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei, and described it as a historical meeting for him and his accompanying delegation.

He further praised Iran’s supports and stances on Iraq, and assured that Iraqi officials are decisive to fulfill their duties and solve the country’s abundant problems.

Nuri al-Maliki underlined his government’s efforts to utilize help and cooperation of all the different groups and peoples in Iraq, and said, “Iraq should regain its independence and glory and the government is trying to get Iraq back to normal in a bid to obtain this goal and it is striving to pave the way for the public use of the spiritual and material riches existing in the country.”
