Iran Seeks to Support Iraqi Gov’t through Talks with US

A000785814.jpgIranian government spokesman here Tuesday said his county participated in talks with the US in a bid to support the Iraqi government, and stressed that Tehran would continue aids and assistance with the Iraqi government until the achievement of final results. “Rendering support to the legal government of Iraq sets our approach in talks with the US and we will continue our assistance with the Iraqi government until the achievement of final results,” Gholam Hossein Elham said in response to reporters’ questions about the future of talks with the US.

He said that transferring responsibility and control of all the social and security affairs to the Iraqi government, which is legal and has ascended to power through public voting, and withdrawal of foreign troops from that country set Iran’s goal in talks with the US.

Elham mentioned establishment of security, restoration of full power to the Iraqi government and removal of occupation as Iran’s main objectives, and reiterated that Tehran would render any kind of help to the Iraqi government to achieve the said goals.
